Super Bowl Sunday is fast approaching and everyone has their own way of preparing for the big day. For supporters it’s pregame rituals, Super Bowl snacks and lucky underwear; for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes it’s a new pair of cleats for the big day.

Mahomes has been an Adidas athlete since 2017 and tends to wear the brand’s Freak Ultra 21 cleats. Ahead of Super Bowl LVIII Adidas have unveiled a unique pair for Mahomes to wear as he looks for his third championship ring against the San Francisco 49ers.

The new design is largely white with golden detailing throughout the upper and his ‘PM’ logo on the heel. The cleats have a ‘hand-drawn’ feel with gold doodles providing a contrast to the clean white base. The famous three stripes feature a glittering golden outer layer and the lining is a royal red.

The cleats colour palate - white, gold and red - are the same as will be worn by Mahomes and his Kansas City teammates at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday, 11 February.

How much does Patrick Mahomes get paid by Adidas?

Mahomes has been an Adidas athlete since turning pro in 2017 and has become one of the most recognisable faces of the brand in North America. In 2020 he signed a bumper 10-year sponsorship agreement with Adidas worth a reported $450 million.

He is is a two-time MLS MVP winner and is now just won game away from winning a third championship with the Chiefs. He is one of the finest players of his generation and his talents and on-field visibility add real value for Adidas.

That has been followed up with clothing and, most recently, the release of the Mahomes 2, the latest sneakers to bear his name.

“Patrick’s a generational force in sports - not just football - shaping the next generation of athletes and serving as an inspiration to all by overcoming pressure in the biggest moments and finding joy in the game,” said Adidas’ Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing Chris Murphy explained.
