Patrick Mahomes reveals if Travis Kelce will retire after this season
The Kansas City Chiefs lost the chance to make NFL history in their loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

It could’ve been the Chiefs making NFL history with three back-to-back Super Bowl wins. It could’ve been tight end Travis Kelce having a stellar performance and going out with a bang before finally retiring from the NFL at the end of this season. It could’ve been Super Bowl ring and then a proposal to pop star Taylor Swift after lifting the Lombardi Trophy.
But life isn’t always as we imagine it, and the Chiefs’ reality was more of a nightmare than a pipe dream tonight. The Philadelphia Eagles dismantled the Chiefs offense, ruining their Super Bowl win streak in an 18-point victory that saw them keep the Chiefs scoreless through nearly three quarters.
And as for Kelce, he didn’t have his best day personally either, catching just four passes on six targets for 39 yards and no touchdowns.

Will Travis Kelce retire after this season?
As Kelce is now 35 years old and has had a great 12-year run with the Chiefs, winning three Super Bowls with the team, there’s been talk about his potential retirement at the end of the 2024 season. While his performance declined a bit at the beginning of this season, he picked up speed towards the middle and ended up being an impactful part of the Chiefs' offense as usual.
Still, achieving a historic three-peat may have been the perfect ending to his career. Without that, and with this disappointing loss to the Eagles, will Kelce want to leave the NFL on such a low note? Quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke on the topic.

“He knows he has a lot of football left in him,” said Mahomes. “It’s just if he wants to put in that grind.”
For his part, Kelce has gone back and forth on his thoughts on retiring, referring to injuries as a reason he might consider it. Still, he’s made many comments that indicate he’s not quite ready to leave the game either. After the heartbreaking loss, we’ll see what Kelce decides once the dust settles.
