Shedeur Sanders now playing for team Deion said he “wouldn’t allow” his son to play for
The Cleveland Browns selected Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and his dad Deion may have changed his tune a bit.

Let’s revisit this, shall we? Remember when Coach Prime said he wouldn’t allow his son to play for certain NFL teams? He since backed off, and thank goodness! Because his criteria would certainly not allow Shedeur Sanders to play for the Cleveland Browns, who just drafted him...144th overall in the fifth round.
Teams that didn’t meet Deion Sanders’ standards for his son include Cleveland Browns
The Sanders family has been given a humongous slice of humble pie this week. Hall of Famer Deion Sanders probably thought he was helping his son out by being his coach, agent, and mentor as a quarterback. In the end, it didn’t do him many favors.
While he was initially expected to be a first-round pick, Shedeur Sanders ended up sliding all the way to the fifth round on the last day of the 2025 NFL Draft. What makes it even more ironic is that Deion had initially said he’d be pretty picky with where he “allowed” his son to end up - and the Browns definitely wouldn’t have made the cut. But by the fifth round, I guess beggers can’t be choosers.
Here’s what Deion said back in January:
“It’s not like who I would like for him to play for. It’s a couple of teams that I won’t allow him to play for," said Sanders. “This is my profession. I know what’s behind the curtain. We ain’t got to get back there for me to understand what’s behind the curtain and what’s not prominent for my son. I’m not doing it.”

And then there was this one from 2018...
I love what the @Browns have done this offseason but if im a young QB ain't no way im going to Cleveland. I would pull a ELI MANNING If possible. #ThinkAboutthat #Truth

Wow. That did NOT age well.
Deion had initially said he wouldn’t allow his son to play for teams that are based in cold-weather cities, have poor track records of developing young QBs, and that rarely make the postseason.
Despite not being a top pick, Shedeur still landed with the Browns - a team that most definitely does not meet that criteria.
