Update:

Dak Prescott has sparked controversy with his comments on the Philadelphia Eagles in the aftermath of their Super Bowl LIX win last weekend.

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback made some bold claims about the Eagles, arguing that his team were “very close” to the NFL champions. Prescott’s comments raised eyebrows and the ire of Dallas superfan Skip Bayless, who soon issued a fiery response.

In a video posted online, Bayless said: “I am ashamed, I am horrified about what my quarterback, Dak Prescott, said about the world champion Philadelphia Eagles today.”

“How can you have the false bravado to say ‘Yeah, we’re going to beat them, we’ve been beating them‘. The delusional audacity... You’re living in the past, you haven’t played these Eagles.”

Bayless took aim at Prescott’s form with the Cowboys and made a direct comparison to the Eagles QB: “You’re gonna play next year at 32 and it feels like you’re 42. It feels like you’re already washed, you’re a broken down, fallen apart quarterback... The highest paid player in all of pro football and you’re two and five in the playoffs. You’re not half the quarterback in the postseason that Jalen Hurts is.

Bayless is known for his eccentric online reactions to Dallas defeats but the 13-minute diatribe shows the broadcaster in a particularly frustrated state. Prescott had claimed that the Cowboys are “very close” to competing for a Super Bowl.

“I feel like we’ve competed with the Eagles and beat them for the most part when we’ve played them,” Prescott said Tuesday. “I don’t want to say, ‘Check the record,’ when the other guy is holding the trophy, right? So credit to them. They’ve earned it, and they deserve it by all means. But, yeah, [we’re] very close.”

The comments from Prescott will not be well-received among many Dallas fans after he and the team struggled in 2024. The Cowboys stumbled to a 7-10 record and failed to make the postseason. Prescott, suffering a midseason hamstring injury, made just eight appearances.

As Bayless pointed out, Prescott’s $60 million annual average salary is the highest in the league and he is yet to deliver on that extension signed last summer. The Cowboys have a lot of work to do in the offseason to mount a realistic tilt at a first Super Bowl appearance in 30 years, no matter what Prescott claims.
