Update:

LeSean McCoy didn’t tiptoe around it. The former All-Pro running back laid the blame for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ lingering quarterback mess squarely at the feet of Ben Roethlisberger, saying the franchise legend did “a poor job” mentoring Kenny Pickett.

Speaking on Fox Sports’ Speak, McCoy claimed Roethlisberger “messed up the whole team” by not preparing his replacement before retiring. “You’re a Hall of Famer, future legend. Help the kid out!” he said, accusing Big Ben of being selfish and uninterested in guiding Pickett during their season together.

The Steelers’ quarterback carousel hasn’t stopped spinning since Roethlisberger’s 2022 exit. Mitch Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and Pickett have all taken turns, none with convincing results. McCoy wasn’t surprised. “I watched the games. I said, ‘Wow, you’re gonna let him keep messing up and not help him?’”

Roethlisberger, who spent 18 seasons in black and gold, has yet to respond. But McCoy’s comments have stirred up debate in Pittsburgh, where fans still revere No. 7. For McCoy, though, legacy doesn’t excuse leadership failures. “If that’s my team, I’m pissed.”
