The Steelers and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick have agreed to a contract extension that will make the All-Pro the highest-paid safety in the history of the NFL.
NFL insider Adam Schefter took to Twitter on Wednesday sharing the news of the two parties finalizing terms on a new deal that will guarantee Fitzpatrick $36 million over four years.
Fitzpatrick to become the highest-paid S in NFL history
The two-time All-Pro has been one of the best safeties in the NFL since being selected by the Miami Dolphins in the 2018 NFL Draft with the eleventh overall pick. The Steelers then acquired him the season after in exchange for their first, fifth, and sixth pick in the 2021 draft and Miami’s selections in the fourth and seventh rounds of that year’s yearly event.
Fitzpatrick earned Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors for a second consecutive season in 2020. The 25-year-old had his best year in the league last season, recording two interceptions and 124 tackles, a career-high.

Fitzpatrick isn’t just about to become the highest-paid safety in the league, earning nearly a million more a year than the $17.5 million Seattle is paying Jamal Adams, but he’s also about to be the sixth highest paid defensive back, behind Jaire Alexander, Denzel Ward, Jalen Ramsey, Marshon Lattimore, and Marlon Humphrey.
