SUPER BOWL 2024
Super Bowl 2024 Halftime Show: How many Grammys has Usher won?
If you’re releasing an album after an eight-year hiatus, even as an award-winning artist, it’s not a bad idea to align it with a Super Bowl extravaganza.
Born in Dallas, Texas, back in 1978 before growing up in Chattanooga, Tennessee, who’d have thought then that baby Usher Raymond IV would be a global superstar in the decades that followed? Well, with a name like that, maybe more than I initially thought. Now known simply as ‘Usher’, more recently fully capitalised, the singing, dancing, songwriting, and acting he’s been involved in has catapulted the now 45-year-old to the stage of Super Bowl LVIII’s Halftime Show.
Taking place on Sunday 11 February - and we’ll be covering the sport and musical spectacles live here on AS USA - the R&B and pop sensation will be dazzling hundreds of millions with his smooth voice and impressive dance moves. But did you know that Usher has a Grammy or two already up his sleeve?
Did Usher win a 2024 Grammy?
As luck should have it, the timing of the Grammy Awards and the climax to the NFL both align themselves to the start of the year. On Sunday 4 February, a week before the Chiefs and 49ers face off in Las Vegas, the 2024 edition of the Grammys took place, with Usher not having received any nominations. Well, he has been rather quiet of late.
It’s worth noting that he did get a nomination last year for Album of the Year as a featured artist on “Good Morning Gorgeous.” Prior to that it was 2015 for four nominations and 2013 when he last won, for “Climax.”
How many Grammy nominations has Usher had?
You may remember that Usher’s breakthrough came with the release of his second album, “My Way” in 1997, which featured the hit singles “Nice & Slow” and “You Make Me Wanna.”
However, it was his third album, “8701″ in 2001, that solidified his status as an R&B icon, highlighted by the Grammy-winning single “U Remind Me” and the chart-topping “U Got It Bad.” His debut Grammy performance came during the 47th edition, where he was on stage alongside the one and only James Brown. In total, Usher has been nominated for a Grammy Award 23 times, and has picked up eight of those famous gongs.
