Team confirmed for first-ever NFL game in Spain
The ever-growing catalogue of international NFL games head to a new country this year with a fixture at Real Madrid’s iconic Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
The National Football League is heading to Spain for the first time in 2025, expanding the reach of the league’s international games series.
On Friday it was confirmed that the Miami Dolphins will play one regular season game in 2025 at the iconic Santiago Bernabéu in the Spanish capital, home of Real Madrid. The 2025 Madrid Game has been cited as a key opportunity for the league to expand further into the Hispanic market.
“We are thrilled to play the NFL’s inaugural game in Spain, a country of rich history, tradition and passion and home to a vibrant Dolphins fanbase,” said Miami Dolphins president and CEO Tom Garfinkel explained.
“There is a hunger for football in this market, and we are proud to join with the NFL in growing the game internationally while engaging with old and new fans alike. With the unique synergy between Miami and Madrid, we believe this is only the beginning for us in this incredible region and we look forward to bringing the excitement and community of Dolphins football to Spain in 2025 and beyond.”
The United Kingdom and Germany have already become established sites for NFL games in Europe, having each hosted games in the past. In 2025 the now-traditional October London NFL game will return, while Munich and Frankfurt will host games too.
The visit of the Miami Dolphins will make Spain the sixth overseas country to host an NFL game. Mexico, Canada, the UK, Germany and Brazil are the only others, highlighting the importance of this latest attempt to penetrate the Spanish-speaking market.
