The 2022 NFL Regular Season Schedule release is set for May 12th
With anticipation running high, we take a look at the release date for the 2022 NFL regular season along with some interesting tweaks that have been made.
For the third year running the NFL will be releasing its official season schedule in May as opposed to previous years when it was dropped in April.
When will the NFL release the 2022/23 season schedule?
With the last NFL season well and truly behind us and an exceptionally busy off-season underway, it seems like a perfect time to talk about the season that’s coming and with the highly anticipated NFL schedule. That’s right! If you’ve been watching and waiting for the schedule to be released then you will be more than happy to know that the league just announced that on Thursday May 12th at 8 p.m. ET., the official schedule for the 2022/23 NFL Season will be released. Interestingly, in a twist of the plot the league will actually be releasing the dates of several games before the official release date on May 12th.
Has the NFL changed anything in the schedule?
This year’s NFL schedule actually comes with a host of things to note, as such we’ve compiled a short list of some of the things we’ve learned so far, as we look forward to the coming season of grid iron action:
NFL’s ‘Thursday Night Football’ on Amazon is a 1st
As has been widely reported, “Thursday Night Football” has found a new home on Amazon Prime. With that, the NFL plans to announce the two teams playing in the network’s first game on the first night of the NFL Draft. In case you’re wondering, that first game is slated for September 15th.
NFL Teams’ home openers to be announced early
In a nod to all of the league’s teams, each of the 32 franchises will be allowed to announce their opponent for their opening home games a full two hours ahead of the release of the official season schedule, at 6 p.m. ET.
The ‘Home’ Teams for NFL International Games
With a total of five games on the international games calendar, we do at least know who the home teams will be. Paying internationally will be the Jaguars, Saints, Packers Buccaneers and Cardinals. Interestingly, the Bucs will be playing in the first ever NFL regular season game in Germany when they head to Munich.
NFL’s Monday night doubleheader returns with a twist
Hard to believe, but its been one year since we last saw a Monday night double header in the NFL. That, however, is about to change as it will in fact be making its long awaited return for the 2022 season. Incidentally, there is an interesting twist on this year’s games in that a portion of each game will be broadcast at the same time. What does that mean? According to the Sports Business Journal, the idea is that the first game would kick-off at 7 p.m. ET and the second at 8 p.m. ET, thereby creating a two hour period where both games would be in progress simultaneously. While start times have not been confirmed, expect to see one game on ESPN and the other on ABC.
Prepare for an NFL Christmas Day tripleheader
With Christmas falling on a Sunday this year, its almost a ‘no brainer’ that we would see some NFL action. In what is perhaps the most exciting change to the schedule is the idea of having a triple header! According to reports, the NFL will in fact play most of its games on Christmas Eve, but we can expect to see an unprecedented trio of games on the special day itself.
The NFL Schedule release is a big deal
As has been increasingly the case in recent years, when it comes to the NFL schedule release, their is an immense amount of fervor and anticipation. The event which has become one of the focal points of the NFL’s off-season can be seen on CBS and the NFL network as usual, but be sure to check in with us here as we will be bringing you the low down on all the other ways you can tune in as well!
