The argument for the Commanders’ Jayden Daniels being the world’s biggest sports star
Daniels’ rookie NFL season is being talked about as one of the greatest of all time, and he could still win the Super Bowl.
The Washington Commanders, shaping up to face the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday (January 26), have had quite the resurgence after years in the wilderness, and Jayden Daniels has had a fairytale start to his NFL career. So much so, that the rookie quarterback is now the world’s biggest sports star, going by one metric.
According to the Washington Post, Daniels’ No. 5 Commanders jersey is the top-selling jersey across any sport in 2025 so far, as well as the best-selling NFL jersey on Fanatics.
It’s been less than a month and peak NFL fever hits at the start of the year every year, so we perhaps shouldn’t expect the trend to continue. But it shows the incredible impact Daniels has had since making his debut in the league at the start of the season.
Jayden Daniels' sensational NFL rookie season in numbers
The 24-year-old’s rookie year is already been talked about as one of the greatest in NFL history. Among the records he has set are:
- Most rushing yards (891) by a rookie quarterback (regular season)
- Highest completion percentage (69%) by a rookie quarterback (regular season)
- Most touchdown passes (12) in the fourth quarter or overtime by a rookie quarterback
- Highest points per game (28.5) for a rookie quarterback
Has a rookie quarterback ever won the Super Bowl
Of course, the best could be yet to come. Daniels and the Commanders face the Eagles in their first NFC Championship game since 1991, the year they last won the Super Bowl.
Daniels is two victories away from becoming the first rookie quarterback to win the Super Bowl. Should he achieve it, watch those jerseys continue to fly off the shelf.
