The longest field goal in NFL history won’t go into the record books
Cam Little of the Jacksonville Jaguars kicked a 70-yard field goal during their preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
NFL preseason is meant to give teams a chance to evaluate their less seasoned players and make room on the roster for those who earn it. The headline going into the Pittsburgh Steelers–Jacksonville Jaguars clash was the two-way role of Travis Hunter, who lined up both as wide receiver and cornerback. But the spotlight ended up on kicker Cam Little.
The Jaguars’ kicker drilled a 70-yard field goal that would have shattered the NFL record – set by Justin Tucker in 2021 with a 66-yarder – in the closing moments of the first half against the Steelers. It didn’t count as a record-breaker, though, because it came in preseason play.
At halftime, Jaguars head coach Liam Coen told reporters he wished Little’s kick had made it into the record books.
“He wanted to try it, so we gave it to him,” Coen told NFL.com. “It was something really cool for Cam. You just wish that was for the record books.”
