These are the many reasons why Kevin Stefanski should start Shedeur Sanders at quarterback for the Browns
The Cleveland Browns’ playoff hopes are dwindling as rookie Dillon Gabriel ranks at the bottom of nearly every passing stat.

The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback situation in 2025 has been, at best, underwhelming. Rookie Dillon Gabriel, expected to bring some stability and spark to the offense after Joe Flacco was traded to the Bengals, has struggled mightily, posting numbers that would worry even the most patient fanbase.
Cleveland Browns’ desperate quarterback situation
Through his starts this season, Gabriel ranks at the bottom of almost every major passing metric. He owns the lowest passing grade, lowest success rate, and lowest positive grade rate among starting quarterbacks. His Breakthrough Throw (BTT) rate, a key indicator of generating explosive plays, is also dead last, while his Throws With Pressure (TWP) rate ranks third worst in the league. And when it comes to throwing the ball five or more yards downfield, a measure of vertical passing accuracy, Gabriel is second-worst in the NFL.

Simply put, the offense isn’t moving forward any time fast with Gabriel under center. Cleveland’s playoff hopes are already in serious trouble, and even more if this trend continues.
Enter Shedeur Sanders, the Browns’ other rookie signal-caller waiting on the sidelines. While Gabriel has struggled to keep defenses on their toes, Sanders offers the potential to change the trajectory of this offense. His mobility, playmaking ability, and quick release are tools that Gabriel has not shown yet this season.
With the offensive line already under pressure and the wide receiver room looking for consistent targets, Cleveland cannot afford to double down on a struggling rookie. Head coach Kevin Stefanski, who has built a reputation as a quarterback-developing coach, has a decision to make: stick with Gabriel and hope for improvement, or pivot to Sanders and give the Browns a potential chance to compete in 2025.
The metrics tell the story. Gabriel’s struggles are glaring and persistent. The Browns’ playoff window is closing fast. If Stefanski wants to maximize the team’s chances, the choice is clear...Shedeur Sanders should be under center.
