This is what the NFL playoff race looks like after Week 17: Who’s in, who’s out and who still has a chance?
With one round of games to go in the 2024 NFL regular season, the playoff picture is almost complete.
Just two playoff places are still up for grabs in the NFL, after three more franchises clinched their spot in the 2024 postseason in Week 17.
Who reached the NFL playoffs in Week 17?
The Los Chargers, the Los Angeles Rams and the Washington Commanders all added their names to the 14-team bracket in the penultimate round of regular-season games, with five teams now left to fight it out for the final two playoff tickets in Week 18.
In the AFC, the Chargers assured themselves of a spot in the Wild Card round with a 40-7 win over the New England Patriots on Saturday, returning to the postseason after missing out in 2023.
The Rams then joined their city rivals in the playoffs on Sunday. Having beaten the Arizona Cardinals 13-9 on Saturday, a series of results elsewhere in the NFL confirmed Sean McVay’s men as NFC West champions the following day.
The Washington Commanders, who were one of the teams that did the Chargers a favor, claimed their postseason qualification - for the first time since 2020 - by defeating the Atlanta Falcons 30-24 in overtime on Sunday.
Among other developments of note in Week 17, the Kansas City Chiefs secured the No. 1 seed in the AFC, thanks to a Christmas Day win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The back-to-back Super Bowl champions claimed their sixth win in a row with a 29-10 triumph at Acrisure Stadium, as Pittsburgh lost ground on the Baltimore Ravens in the race for the AFC North title.

Who can clinch a playoff spot in Week 18?
In the AFC, three teams will be battling it out for the conference’s remaining playoff place: the Denver Broncos, the Miami Dolphins and the Cincinnati Bengals.
The 9-7 Broncos are in pole position, but face the mighty Chiefs in their final regular-season game. The Coloradans will book their postseason spot by beating Kansas City, or if both the 8-8 Dolphins and the 8-8 Bengals fail to win. Miami must beat the New York Jets and hope for a Denver loss, while Cincinnati must not only defeat the Steelers, but also needs a Broncos loss and a Dolphins defeat or tie.
In the NFC, the final postseason ticket will go to either the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the Atlanta Falcons. The 9-7 Buccaneers will reach the playoffs if they beat the New Orleans Saints or the Falcons fail to defeat the Carolina Panthers. Atlanta, meanwhile, must win and hope for a Tampa Bay loss.
