Update:

The Tennessee Titans look to have made a big call ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, deciding which of the quarterback prospects they want to take with the No. 1 overall pick.

The Titans certainly need a new quarterback and the two biggest talents of the 2025 cohort are Miami’s Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders of the Colorado Buffaloes. Tennessee haven’t announced a preference but on Saturday it was reported that they had cancelled a planned private workout with Sanders, suggesting that they are leaning towards Ward.

The decision to cancel the workout was announced on the Titans’ official website, saying that the team have already watched extensive game footage and got to interact with Sanders directly at Pro Day.

“The Titans have seen 4 years of game film, scouted multiple games, and now attended a Pro Day they described as very impressive,” wrote Jim Watt, on the Titans’ website.

For many onlookers, however, the decision also suggests that they are leaning towards Cam Ward with the first pick. A private workout is usually viewed as an opportunity for teams to get a different perspective on the player in question, and to work with him in private. For a quarterback, in particular, the nature of that workout may give hints as to the team’s playing style or even specific plays for the upcoming season.

Sanders’ likely landing spot has been a matter of great contention, becoming one of the most contentious draft prospects of recent years. He has all the physical tools required to make the step up to the NFL and showed an impressive passing range during the Colorado Buffaloes Pro Day.

His college coach is father and NFL legend Deion Sanders. Speaking last month, Deion admitted that Shedeur has revealed his preference for NFL destination but insisted that he has faith in his son’s talents wherever he ends up.

“Shedeur has told me, he’s talked to me intently about all the visits he’s had with all the teams, so I know where his heart is, I know where he wants to go,” Deion Sanders told “The Skip Bayless Show”. “If it’s New York, it’s New York, if it’s Tennessee, if it’s Cleveland, if it’s still the Raiders, if it’s New Orleans, if it’s any of those teams that are seeking a quarterback, I’m happy with it, man. Because I know what he’s going to do to the organization.”
