Update:

Sunday, December 14, 2025 will go down as one of the darkest days in the history of the Kansas City Chiefs: everything that could go wrong at Arrowhead Stadium did go wrong for the Chiefs. They fell 13–16 to the Los Angeles Chargers and, for the first time since 2014, will not compete in the playoffs for a title. Despite reaching the finals in five of the last six editions, this defeat means they have now missed out on a championship run in three of those six years.

However, the loss to the Chargers was not the only bad news of the night. The entire stadium fell silent when Chiefs star and NFL legend Patrick Mahomes went down injured with two minutes remaining, just as Kansas City was searching for a comeback.

Mahomes’ condition immediately raised concern, and the MRI he later underwent confirmed the worst.

“An MRI has confirmed that Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes sustained a torn ACL in his left knee in today’s game. Patrick and the club are currently exploring surgical options.”

After leaving the field, and before the diagnosis was officially confirmed, Mahomes posted a message on social media, aware of the seriousness of the situation and promising to return stronger.

“Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie it’s hurts. But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you Chiefs kingdom for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I Will be back stronger than ever
