Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce is using his success out on the field to make a difference for those a lot less fortunate than he is.

Back in January 2016, Kelce signed a a five-year contract worth $46 million with the Chiefs and spoke about what the city means to him. “I love the players, I love the city, the community. I told everybody it’s my home away from home. I’d love to absolutely stay here.”

Not long after that, he invested $3.3 million in buying a six-bedroom house, with a view to restoring it and transforming it into a transitional living facility for homeless youth - providing those most in need with providing with a safe space, stability and hope for the future.

Working in conjunction with non-profit organization Foster Love, Travis has donated the 6,500-square-foot home which he hopes with give young homeless people the kickstart they need.

The spacious, fully-refurbished property boasts six bedrooms, five bathrooms, a game room, a study area, gardens and a patio where residents can relax - a safe environment where they will be able to focus on personal growth, build their independence and get off the streets for good.

Foster Love underline the importance of Kelce giving Kansas City’s homeless youth a helping hand. According to national studies, 40% of young people become homeless within just 18 months of leaving foster care.

In Kansas, young adults age out of the foster care system once they reach 21 years of age. According to Kansas Department for Children and Families data, around 5,620 children and teenagers were in foster care in the state as of February 2025.

With 390,000 cases nationwide, Kansas has one of the highest percentages of children in foster care in the country.

In addition to the transitional living facility, Kelce also set up “Ignition Lab: Powered by 87 & Running”. This space will provide high schoolers with the resources and opportunities to explore careers in STEM, develop entrepreneurial skills, and get real-world experience. The combination of housing, mentorship, and educational opportunities makes Travis Kelce’s efforts for young homeless people truly groundbreaking.

Through his foundation 87 and Running, Travis also organizes regular fundraising events both in Kansas City and his hometown of Cleveland Heights, Ohio. “Not everybody has the same privileges, the same advantages in life. Lending a helping hand is always the right thing to do,” he says.
