What has the Jets’ Aaron Rodgers said about the surgery to repair his Achilles tendon?
With a long road to recovery ahead, both the team and its fans can take comfort in the fact that the star QB’s surgery went well and he’s in high spirits.
If there is one thing we can say about Aaron Rodgers since his season-ending injury, it’s that he’s maintained positivity at all times. From his first public statements earlier this week, to what he’s now disclosed following the operation he underwent, the four-time MVP has been upbeat throughout.
Aaron Rodgers says the surgery was “great”
According to his Instagram post on Thursday night, the surgery that Aaron Rodgers underwent on Wednesday to repair his torn Achilles, went “great.” The 39-year-old signal caller shared a photo from his hospital bed in which he could be seen smiling. The operation of course came as a result of the injury that Rodgers sustained just four snaps into his very first season with the New York Jets. “Surgery went great yesterday. Thank you for all the love and prayers and support. And thanks to the (goat emoji) Dr. ElAttrache and his staff for starting on the road to recovery (heart emoji).”
Rodgers’ comments come following another post that he made on Wednesday where he defiantly stated that he would “rise again.” It goes without saying that this is exactly what fans want to hear, as he begins the long journey back to full fitness. To be clear, given the type of injury that he sustained, that could be anywhere from four to six months. With that in mind, it’s worth noting that while Rodgers hasn’t definitively said his career will continue, between his comments and those of Jets head coach Robert Saleh, who indicated that he would be shocked if the star QB called it quits, one has to believe that we will be seeing the former Green Bay Packers star once more when the 2024-25 season rolls around. Indeed, that idea was given further credence after Jets offensive coordinator and close friend of Rodgers, Nathaniel Hackett, stated that he believes the quarterback will return. “Oh yeah,” Hackett said on Thursday. “Whenever Aaron Rodgers has his mind set on something, good luck getting him to change his mind.”
What will the Jets do without Aaron Rodgers?
With Rodgers no longer an option, the Jets have essentially been forced right back into the same situation they were in last season i.e., former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson who endured an up-and-down campaign last year, will now be the team’s starting quarterback according to head coach Robert Saleh. It was of course Wilson who replaced Rodgers on Monday night, as he went on to complete 14 of 21 passes including the game-tying touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson. Up next for the 24-year-old will be the Dallas Cowboys, a team that’s flown out of the starting blocks, evidenced by a 40-0 mauling of the New York Giants on Sunday night.
