Michael Oher, whose adoption served as the foundation for the film “The Blind Side,” has lodged a petition in a Tennessee court alleging a fundamental untruth within the movie, leading to the Tuohy family’s financial gain at his expense.

Oher contends that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy never formally adopted him; instead, they manipulated him into designating them as his conservators, granting them legal authority for business dealings on his behalf.

The legal filing reads as such:

The lie of Michael’s adoption is one upon which Co-Conservators Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves at the expense of their Ward, the undersigned Michael Oher.”

While this story is breaking, and there is a lot to unpack here, Oher’s financial wealth is a topic of discussion.

Michael Oher’s net worth

According to various public sources, Oher’s net worth is $16 million.

Meanwhile, the Oscar-winning film attached to Oher’s life grossed over $300 million. Despite the film’s box-office success, Oher was not pleased with how he was depicted on screen.

In his 2011 autobiography, “I Beat the Odds: From Homelessness to the Blind Side and Beyond,” Oher stated that before he met the Tuohys, he had much more football knowledge than portrayed and was much more of an extrovert than an introvert, as the movie shows.

Oher was drafted at No. 23 overall in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. Following his draft selection, Oher signed a five-year, $13.8 million deal with the team.

In 2014, Oher signed a four-year, $20 million contract to play for the Tennessee Titans. Unfortunately, Oher sustained an injury that required him to be placed on injured reserve. The Titans released the offensive tackle the following February.

He then signed a two-year, $7 million deal with the Carolina Panthers one month later and would play in his one and only Super Bowl with the Panthers.

In 2016, Oher signed a three-year extension with the Panthers for $21.6 million, with guarantees of $9.5 million. Unfortunately for Oher, he sustained a concussion three games into the season and would be released the following year due to a failed physical.

Oher purchased a Brentwood home in May 2014 for $1.3 million.

How Much Did Michael Oher make from the movie ‘The Blind side’?

According to Oher’s petition, the 37-year-old did not benefit from the movie. However, there is little to no information that proves that.
