The quarterback market for the 2023 NFL season has started its movements with the arrival of Derek Carr in New Orleans, and now everything points to the next quarterback who will likely make a move.

According to a report by ESPN’s Dan Graziano, New York Jets management has traveled to Green Bay to meet with Aaron Rodgers, since the Packers have given the quarterback permission to look for a trade that suits both parties.

One of the points in favor of the New York franchise is that the Jets hired Nathaniel Hackett as offensive coordinator. He was Rodgers' coach between 2019 and 2021; in that span, the quarterback was twice named NFL MVP.

Rodgers’ mega-contract

According to Spotrac, Rodgers signed a three-year, $150.81 million contract with the Packers on March 14, 2022. His base salary will be $1.16 million, but he will receive a $12.9 million signing bonus.

In case he moves to the Jets, Rodgers would emulate Brett Favre, who arrived in New York at age 39. Back then, the New York team acquired Favre in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2009 Draft.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee spent just one year in the Big Apple and went 9-7 after playing in every regular season game. In all, he had 3,472 yards with 22 touchdowns and 22 interceptions on 65.7% completion.

Quarterback situation in New York

The Jets have Zach Wilson and Chris Streveler under contract for the 2023 NFL season. During the previous season, coach Robert Saleh used them, as well as Mike White and veteran Joe Flacco.

The presence of Rodgers in New York would be a great advantage in a division where the only opponent with a proven quarterback is Josh Allen’s Buffalo Bills.
