Who will succeed Sean McDermott as the Buffalo Bills head coach? These are the top HC candidates
The Bills are on the lookout for a new head coach, choosing to fire McDermott after the Divisional Round loss to the Denver Broncos.

The Buffalo Bills have fired head coach Sean McDermott, according to multiple reports. The decision comes after Saturday’s 33-30 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos in the Divisional Round, which extends the Bills’ long wait for a first-ever Super Bowl.
The search now begins for a replacement for McDermott, who becomes the ninth head coach to be fired during the course of the 2025 season.
Who could become the Bills’ next head coach?
While it is still too early to know who is most likely to take over from McDermott, a number of names have been touted for head coach positions around the league. They include Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, former Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel, ex-Jets head coach Robert Saleh, Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula, former Falcons head coach Raheem Morris and Packers DC Jeff Hafley.
McDermott pays the price for postseason failures
McDermott leaves Buffalo after nine seasons, in eight of which he led the team to the postseason. The outgoing coach had an impressive 98-50 record over his nine seasons in charge, with eight of his victories coming in the playoffs.
However, the Bills failed to win a Conference Championship or reach the Super Bowl in that time, and has ultimately paid the price for being unable to get over the final hurdle.
