Update:

The Saints have not confirmed Alvin Kamara’s availability for this weekend’s NFC South clash with the Panthers, but it seems likely that the running back won’t be ready to return from injury against Carolina.

Kamara, who is carrying knee and ankle problems, has not played since the Saints’ 24-10 Week 12 defeat to the Atlanta Falcons on November 23.

The 30-year-old’s game status in Week 15 is listed as “unspecified” on New Orleans’ latest injury report, but he has so far been unable to participate in practice this week.

“We’ll just see how this thing progresses”

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Saints head coach Kellen Moore said “we’ll see” when asked about a possible Kamara comeback against the Panthers. Moore described the eight-year NFL veteran as “questionable” for Week 15.

On Wednesday, Moore then told a news conference that the RB is “doing everything he can” to recover from injury, in remarks that offered little indication the player is expected to suit up this weekend.

Asked whether he believes Kamara will be back this season, Moore said: “We’re shooting for that.” He added: “We’ll just see how this thing progresses. You never want to throw timelines on things and make them concrete. He’s doing everything he can.”

In 11 starts this season, Kamara has registered 33 receptions for 186 yards, no touchdowns and seven first downs, in a New Orleans team that can no longer qualify for the playoffs.

The 3-10 Saints were eliminated after their 21-17 defeat to the Dolphins in Week 13, condemning the franchise to a fifth straight year without postseason football.
