Update:

Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield appears likely to start against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, as the 6-5 Buccaneers bid to halt a three-game losing streak in Week 13 of the NFL regular season.

What injury does Mayfield have?

Mayfield has started all 12 games so far in 2025, but his involvement against the Cardinals was thrown into doubt when he suffered a shoulder injury in the Buccaneers’ Week 12 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams.

The 30-year-old, who is currently listed as “questionable” on Tampa Bay’s official injury report, missed practice on Wednesday, and was a limited participant on Thursday.

However, he returned to full practice on Friday - and head coach Todd Bowles is optimistic the quarterback will be under center this weekend.

“Trending to play”

He looked good today, so he’s trending to play,” Bowles said of Mayfield during a news conference on Friday. “He was very limited on Wednesday, he did a little more yesterday, [and] he moved around perfectly today, so he was fine.”

In a further selection boost for Bowles, running back Bucky Irving, linebacker Haason Reddick and guard Ben Bredeson are all in contention to return from injury.

  • Out: Benjamin Morrison (hamstring), Rashad Wisdom (quad)
  • Questionable: Ben Bredeson (hamstring), Jamel Dean (hip), Bucky Irving (shoulder/foot), Baker Mayfield (shoulder), Anthony Nelson (ribs), Haason Reddick (ankle/knee)

Can Bucs stop skid?

The Buccaneers currently lead the NFC South, but are under pressure from the 6-6 Panthers; their hopes of clinching a fifth straight division title rest on curbing a winless run that now stretches back over a month.

Before a 34-7 loss to the Rams on Nov. 23, the Floridians endured defeats to the New England Patriots and the Buffalo Bills in Weeks 10 and 11, respectively.

Having had their bye week just before losing to the Patriots, the Buccaneers have not tasted victory since a Week 8 triumph over the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 26.

We’ve got plenty of confidence - we’ve never lost that,” Bowles told reports on Friday.

“It’s just picking up on the little things from an execution standpoint. We all know we have to do our job better, and that’s coaches and players.”
