Kansas City Chiefs are preparing ahead of their second preseason NFL game when they face Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium next Saturday and will be anxious to bounce back from their opening game of preseason as the lost to the Jaguars.

Andy Reid’s men and reigning NFL champions looked rusty against Jacksonville. The Chiefs coach admitted the team needs to improve in a few aspects. “There’s plenty that we can work on”, Reid said after the game.

Meanwhile, the Lions are in a similar position, as they also fell in their first preseason matchup with the Giants and will be anxious to improve with the new season looming with the campaign set to get underway on 5 September.

Chris Jones injury update

With the clock ticking down towards the new season, the Chiefs sick bay is more occupied than coach Andy Reid would like. For their penultimate training session ahead of the Lions game, the Chiefs were without offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor (shoulder), offensive lineman Wanya Morris (bone bruise on knee), wide receiver Hollywood Brown (shoulder), tailback Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ill), wide receiver Jaaron Hayek (shoulder), defensive lineman Chris Jones (shoulder), offensive lineman McKade Mettauer (knee) and safety Bryan Cook (personal reasons).

Speaking on the Jones injury sustained in the game against the Jaguars, Reid stated: “They were able to get the joint back into place without surgery, which is a positive,” the coach added.

“And then we’ll just see on the recovery. He’s back in Kansas City now, he stayed over in Jacksonville until they got that thing situated.”

Fans will remember that Jones was something of a mystery man in the 2023 season as a contract dispute saw him sidelined before a breakthrough finally came in May when he penned a new deal with the Chiefs.
