Will Justin Herbert be able to play the Monday Night Football game against the Eagles? Los Angeles QB’s injury report
Here’s everything you need to know about the fitness of Chargers star Justin Herbert.
The Justin Herbert saga continues to roll on this week as the Los Angeles Chargers and fans stress over his availability for Monday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Here’s what we know so far, and why it’s still unclear if he’ll be under the spotlights or in the stands come Monday.
Last Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, Herbert suffered a fracture in his left hand after taking a hard hit during a first-quarter scramble. Surprisingly, he returned to the field and managed to continue; albeit wearing a cast and glove, he completed 15 of 20 passes for 151 yards, threw two touchdowns, and led the Chargers to a 31–14 win.
Will Justin Herbert play against the Eagles?
Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh revealed that the Chargers will indeed prepare backup quarterback Trey Lance this week if he is needed.
ESPN report that while Herbert did undergo surgery in order to stabilise the fracture, he is “day-to-day” in terms of his recovery and that his match fitness for Monday “will be determined later in the week.”
“That’ll be a point of emphasis this week‚” Harbaugh said on Monday when asked about Herbert’s availability, adding of the player that “there’s never any grimace or flinch, it’s pretty amazing.”
Herbert himself is used to this situation, having fractured the middle finger on his left hand also, against the Raiders, two seasons ago. “I think in terms of experience, I’ve gone through similar things, and so I think it’ll be helpful,” he admitted. “But at the end of the day, just got to go out there and make sure that everything is good, you’re comfortable.”
