Justin Herbert, the quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers is officially listed as questionable for their game against the Kansas City Chiefs, to be held at the SoFi stadium with kickoff at 4:25 p.m. ET.

While he might be listed as questionable, there’s still a good chance he’ll be in the starting line-up and take the field against the 3 and 0 Chiefs. That’s because Herbert is as tough as old boots. The reason he’s questionable is because he’s suffering from a “high ankle sprain” he picked up against the Panthers in Week 2, when he landed badly. That kind of injury is one that can last for months, with an expected recovery time of at least two months, but Herbert suited up and was back out in Week 3 for the game against the Steelers.

State of Herbert’s ankle

The Charger’s QB played the first half of the Steelers game, but ended up being taken off in the second half, after taking a bad hit. He was ruled out for the rest of the game, and the word from the LA outfit was that the original injury had been aggravated.

Herbert was listed as “limited” for the three practice sessions the Chargers had this week, so you might be thinking he’s more than likely ruled out for Sunday. But according to him he’s feeling better than he did last week. So don’t expect him not to at least try to play.

Who plays if Herbert is out for the Chargers?

If Herbert can’t play or needs to come off, expect Taylor Heinicke to step into his cleats. He took over last week against the Steelers. And he’s started for the Falcons and the Commanders and he’s a playmaker with superb ability in the pocket - though he can take it too far and end up being sacked more than most coaches would approve of. Notably all of the Charger’s 10 points last weekend came with Herbert on the field, with Heinicke unable to add anything as the Steelers ran out 20-10 winners.
