Will Ladd McConkey play for the Chargers against the Buccaneers? NFL injury update

The Chargers were missing one of their key wide receivers last week, but they are hopeful for his return today against the Buccaneers.

As the Los Angeles Chargers prepare for their match against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they may be getting a key player back from injury. Wide receiver Ladd McConkey, who has been a standout performer for the Chargers this season, has been dealing with an AC joint sprain in his shoulder as well as a knee sprain.

The injury kept him out of the Chargers' game against the Kansas City Chiefs last week. His absence was a huge loss for the Chargers, as the rookie has had a standout season. With 58 receptions for 815 yards and four touchdowns this season, he has been a reliable target for quarterback Justin Herbert. His ability to stretch the field and make critical catches has been instrumental in the Chargers’ offensive success.

McConkey’s status vs Bucs

McConkey had three limited practices this week and looks likely to return to the field against the Buccaneers today. He is listed as questionable, but NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport says he is looking positive to return.

“Chargers WR Ladd McConkey (knee, shoulder) is listed as questionable and the plan is for him to work out pregame. But sources say the team is optimistic that he can go,” Rapoport wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The Chargers’ coaching staff is hopeful that McConkey will be able to play. The decision will likely come down to a game-time evaluation, considering both his physical readiness and the risk of aggravating his injuries.

The Chargers are still in the playoff race and will need all the help they can get to stay in it as the Buccaneers are fighting for the same thing. The game kicks off at 4:25 p.m. ET from SoFi Stadium.
