It looks like it’s going to be another week without Russell Wilson playing for the Steelers as the regular season gathers pace in the 2024 season. Although he won a starting role in the preseason, a niggling calf injury which he suffered at the start of training camp has kept him sidelined. But his replacement is catching the eye.

Justin Fields taking his chance

In the meantime, head coach Mike Tomlin has deployed Justin Fields as QB1, and the 25-year-old former Bears player has seized the opportunity, leading Pittsburgh to three straight wins, the first time they’ve done that since 2020.

Fields looks certain to start Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers with Wilson questionable after only making limited practice on Wednesday. Both DeShon Elliott and Jaylen Warren were also listed as questionable due to a quadriceps and knee issue respectively.

As Russell Wilson continues on his recovery, and many observers still see him as the better QB, Fields is stepping it up and threw for 245 yards against the Chargers, as well as running in a touchdown himself.

As Tomlin said, “We’re readying ourselves around Justin and we’ll stay in that mindset until something else happens. Hypotheticals is a waste of our time.”

What time is Steelers vs Colts?

This AFC clash is all set for the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, with kickoff at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 29. The Colts are off to a 1-2 start this season.
