Will Russell Wilson play for the Steelers against the Cowboys? NFL Week 5 injury status

The Steelers have had an impressive start to the 2024 campaign but it’s not been due to their starting quarterback who hasn’t played a single game so far.

Russell Wilson’s move to the Pittsburgh Steelers was meant to be the reignition of his floundering career. Instead, Wilson has yet to see a single snap for his new team due to injury. Meanwhile, his backup has laid down a marker in his absence.

‘Questionable’ is what Russell Wilson is ahead of the Cowboys clash

The final injury reports for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys were released ahead of their Week 5 game at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday night, and in total, there were six players ruled out, and another four are questionable between the two teams. Where the Steelers are concerned, it should come as no surprise that all eyes were once more on Russell Wilson’s status.

To be clear, Wilson was again unable to fully participate in practice this week, though he did manage to feature in three limited sessions. To that end, the Super Bowl-winning quarterback comes into Sunday’s game with a designation of ‘questionable.’ Yet, it should be said that even if Wilson were ready to go, it’s quite likely that head coach Mike Tomlin would still go with Justin Fields who has impressively guided the team to a 3-1 start on the season so far.

This is where we come to Pittsburgh’s bigger problem which is the running back position. With Cordarrelle Patterson and Jaylen Warren ruled out, the team is extremely thin in terms of cover. At present, Najee Harris and Aaron Shampklin are the only healthy running backs on the active roster, meaning the team will almost certainly elevate either Jonathan Ward or La’Mical Perine, or possibly both.

If there is good news where the Steelers’ injury report is concerned, it would be that guard Isaac Seumalo will finally return to the field in Week 5 after a pectoral injury sidelined him for the first four games of the season. When considering the fact that the team lost James Daniels for the rest of the season, that’s particularly good news.
