The Philadelphia Eagles open up their season as hosts to the Green Bay Packers on Friday, September 6, but the fact that it’s a Friday game isn’t the only unique aspect of it. Though the Eagles are the hosts, the game will not be played at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, but rather at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, Brazil as part of the NFL’s International Series.

Do the cheerleaders get to go to the NFL’s international games?

The Eagles players will have a pretty quick turnaround in São Paulo, so it’s not going to leave them much time to explore the city. They will leave on Wednesday morning for the 9 hour, 45 minute direct flight from Philly to São Paulo and arrive in the evening. Luckily, it’s only a one-hour time difference from Philadelphia, so they won’t have to adjust their body clocks too much and they don’t have to arrive to the country super early like teams do for the London Games. They will have a walkthrough practice on Thursday at the stadium and play the Packers on Friday night, flying back home after the game.

The Eagles cheerleaders, also known as the Liberty Belles, however, will have a few extra days in Brazil. Yes, the cheerleaders get to go to the game in Brazil, too! Typically, NFL cheerleaders do not travel with the team when they have road games, but there are exceptions, like the Super Bowl and international games. And in this case, the Eagles actually are the home team, and at least some of their cheer squad will be coming with them.

The Packers are considered the away team, but an international game may have been the exception for their cheer squad to come - if they had one. As they do not, it’ll be the Liberty Belles in Brazil on Friday.

Before the team arrives in São Paulo, there will be several community events throughout the week. On Wednesday afternoon, there will be an event with hundreds of young athletes from local NFL Flag Football programs and the cheerleaders along with the Eagles’ mascot Scoop will be in attendance.

The cheerleaders who aren’t coming to Brazil will be back in Philly along with a DJ, drumline, and former Eagles players, and will perform live at an Eagles vs Packers watch party for fans at Lincoln Financial Field.
