You won’t believe what Jaxson Dart did on his first throw with the New York Giants
The New York Giants drafted Jaxson Dart out of Ole Miss with 25th pick in the 2025. He could be the QB of the future, but he’s got some growing to do.
The New York Giants started training camp this week, and we got our first look at rookie QB Jaxson Dart. The good news for the former Ole Miss gunslinger is, there is nowhere to go but up after his first throw in a Giants helmet.
Far from a dream start for Dart
Dart thew a pick on his first throw in 11 on 11 drills and it got returned for a touchdown. It was far from the dream start for the first year quarterback who some think could be the face of the future in the Big Apple.
The Giants are still looking for a replacement for Eli Manning, another former Ole Miss QB, who retired in 2019. Manning won two Super Bowls in his time in New York and has his No. 10 retired at Metlife Stadium. Daniel Jones was drafted in hopes of a smooth transition under center, but that era came to an end last year when the Giants decide to part ways with their one time franchise QB.
Dart spent most of his time in college at Ole Miss after transferring from USC after the 2021 season. He went 21-5 in his final two seasons in Oxford, and threw for 4,279 yards, 29 TDs and just six picks in his final year with the Rebels.
Wilson named QB1 after Day 1
The Giants had already named Russell Wilson their starting quarterback after the first day of training camp. He has the most experience, and a Super Bowl title under his belt. He is on a one year deal in New York, but is looking to make New York his home after a bumpy last few years in Denver and in Pittsburgh.

Dart will be competing with Jameis Winston for the second string position throughout training camp. Winston spent last year with the Cleveland Browns and had some spectacular moment, and others that weren’t so spectacular.
Either way, Dart was drafted in hopes that he will be the quarterback of the future. Now that Wilson has been named the starter, he can spend the preseason trying to get used to the speed and strength of the players in the NFL without having to get rushed into a starting role like we have seen happen to a lot of rookies over the last few years.
