The USA’s Xander Schauffele and Spain’s Jon Rahm are in a tie for the lead after day three of the men’s Olympic golf tournament, after both finished Saturday’s play on 14 under.

Can Schauffele defend Olympic crown?

Schauffele, the world No. 2, shot 68 in round three at Le Golf National, as the 30-year-old bids to retain the Olympic title he won in Tokyo in 2021. Having begun the day two strokes off the lead, meanwhile, Rahm surged into contention for the gold with a round of 66.

Great Britain’s Tommy Fleetwood is one shot behind Schauffele and Rahm, while Denmark’s Nicolai Hojgaard and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama are tied for fourth on 11 under.

How did Scheffler, Morikawa and Clark do on day three?

American world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler finished day three on 10 under, alongside Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, South Korea’s Tom Kim and Belgium’s Thomas Detry.

Team USA’s remaining representatives, Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark, have significant ground to make up in Sunday’s final round if they’re to secure a medal. They are both on five under, in a six-way tie for 23rd.
