While it may have taken her four years, Gabby Thomas has managed to see her dream of winning the gold medal in the 200-meter race come true. With that, the American is now an Olympic champion, something that will serve her well as she prepares for one more event.

Gabby Thomas is an Olympic champion and she feels it

On Tuesday, Team USA’s Gabby Thomas added yet another medal to the nation’s tally and it was gold. Indeed, having captured the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Thomas came to Paris with a point to prove and she did just that. With a time of 21.83 seconds, the 27-year-old went 0.04 seconds faster than her mark in Tokyo as she crossed the line ahead of St. Lucia’s Julien Alfred and her teammate, Brittany Brown.

Needless to say, it was a moment that brought with it an instantaneous release of emotion. Years of work with the intent of standing atop the podium had finally paid off and it was plain to see. As Thomas crossed the line, tears were immediate as she put her hands behind her head, taking in the moment in what could be described as disbelief. Yet, something tells us that it was quite the opposite in that it’s the belief that brought her to that very point.

As for what comes next, it should definitely be said that Thomas isn’t done in Paris. Starting on Thursday, August 8th, she and her three teammates will begin the process of qualification for the 4x100 women’s relay final. That would be the same team that won the silver medal in Tokyo which is to say there is yet another point to prove. Keep an eye on Gabby Thomas as something tells us there are more medals in her future and quite possibly of the golden kind.
