100m hurdles at 2022 World Athletics Championships: final, schedule, times, favorites, records
The women’s world record holder, Kendra Harrison, will try to win after placing second behind Dominican Jasmine Camacho-Quinn in the 2021 Olympics.
The 100m hurdles heats take place today, with all of the favorites, including Harrison, Camacho-Quinn and Tapper, trying to qualify for tomorrow’s semifinals and final. In this race there is 13m to the first hurdle, 8.5m between hurdles thereafter, and 10.5m from the final hurdle to the finish.
Olympic champion Camacho-Quinn v Harrison, the fastest ever
It has already been six years since American Kendra Harrison stunned everyone by beating the 100m hurdles world record by a one hundredth of a second, setting a 12.20s benchmark that was just faster than Yordanka Donkova’s 30-year record. She has not had the brightest success since then, though, placing fourth and second in the previous 2017 and 2019 World Athletic Championships and having to settle for silver again in Tokyo last summer.
Her chances this time around are still good, as she’s ranked number three in the world this season, but the current number one is also the woman who beat her in the Olympics: Jasmine Quinn Camacho. The Puerto Rican runner is the most consistently fast in the competition, with 12.37 as her season’s best. Harrison comes with a 12.34 and has the speed to win her first World Championship gold medal, but will have to be consistent and show it when it counts to beat other formidable athletes, such as Jamaican Megan Tapper and Nigerian Tobi Amusan.
100m hurdles: heats, starting lists and how to qualify for semifinals
There will be six heats for the 100m hurdles at this year’s World Athletics Championships, with a total of 41 women taking their place in the competition. The three fastest from each heat qualify for the semifinals on Sunday, as well as the six fastest women that placed fourth or lower.
Jasmine Camacho-Quinn will race in the second heat against world number six Bahamian Devynne Charlton. World number two Tobi Amusan will be the favorite in the third heat while Kendra Harrison will be part of the last heat.
How to watch and schedule for heats, semifinals and finals
The heats will take place on Saturday 23rd, with the first one set to start at 11:20am local time, and a scheduled 11:55 starting time for the sixth and final heat. Semifinals and the final will take place on Sunday, at 17:10pm and 19:00pm respectively.
