After a controversial week in golf, the best players get together at the Country Club in Brookline, MA, for the third men’s major event of the season starting Thursday, June 16 through Sunday, June 19. This is the third time the club has held the USGA’s flagship championship and first time since 1988.

Rory Mcllroy, who just spoke to the media today, is ready to face Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau, who are among 12 players who participated at the LIV Golf tournament last week outside London.

Tiger Woods has prioritized his health by choosing not to participate at the event and giving himself time to heal his right leg in time for the British Open at St. Andrews. Mickelson, who was out for four months before playing at the Saudi-backed LIV Golf event last week, is playing for the first time on U.S. soil since late January.

What is the prize money at the US Open 2022

The US Open has become one of the four majors topping $1 million in prize money for the winner, who also gets an automatic invitation to play in the Masters, the British Open and the PGA Championship.

This year, the 2022 US Open purse is set for $12.5 million, with the winner’s at $2,250,000 as the standard 18 percent payout.

2021 US Open defending champion

Spanish Jon Rahm was last year’s defending champion after becoming the first player at Torrey Pines to birdie the last two holes and win the U.S. Open by one shot. The 27-year-old enters this year’s tournament as the betting favorite to take home the U.S. Open Championship title for a second consecutive season.
