2023 US Open: Who plays today September 6? Match times for Medvedev, Alcaraz, Sabalenka and Keys

The last quarterfinal games will be played on Day 10, with the top contenders looking to get closer to the tournament’s title.

The last quarterfinal games will be played on Day 10, with the top contenders looking to get closer to the tournament’s title.

With only three games away from the US Open trophy, players who are still competing in the fourth Grand Slam event of the calendar will be facing their toughest opponents so far in New York.

Will Aryna Sabalenka be able to outmuscle the Chinese Qinwen Zheng? It will be Wednesday’s first match and the Belarussian, who has been looking in great shape so far, will try to maintain her level in a tricky game.

The second game of the day will be a battle between Russian friends: Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev. Meddy has won five of the seven games they have played, so he’s the favorite to get his hand raised in what is expected to be a battle of exchanges from the baseline.

The current Wimbledon titleholder Marketa Vondrousova will take on the American Madison Keys, who looked impressive in her last win over fellow countrywoman Jessica Pegula in straight sets.

And the final game of the day will be the one between the 2022 US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev. It’s one of the best matches that can be seen today and both fighters will give their all to be in the semifinals.

Zverev has been looking very strong and will be a threat to the Murcia native, although Alcaraz’s aggressive and versatile style could pose a few problems for the German.

Ben Shelton, a star is born

Meanwhile, the biggest breakthrough in the 2023 US Open has been Ben Shelton. The 20-year-old American has become a reality, proving his game is as dangerous as it can be and defeating opponents like Tommy Paul and Frances Tiafoe.

The NextGen player defeated Foe in four sets to book a ticket into the semifinals, where he will be taking on Novak Djokovic.

Cori Gauff was the other big name of the day, as the Florida-bred talent dismantled Jelena Ostapenko, losing only two games in the match.

Taylor Fritz wasn’t that lucky, as he was defeated by Djokovic in a game where the Serb showed his consistency and quality. Fritz has now lost all the eight matches he has played against the Serb.

Karolina Muchova was the favorite to beat Sorana Cirstea, and that’s what happened. The 2023 French Open finalist was the better player at Arthur Ashe Stadium and will take on Gauff next.
