Update:

The 2025 Truist Championship is heading into the weekend with Keith Mitchell clinging to a one-shot lead after two rounds in soggy Flourtown, Pennsylvania. On a day when most of the field struggled to score, Mitchell carded a steady 67 to reach 12-under-par and hold off a surging Shane Lowry, who posted Friday’s low round – a five-under 65 – to sit just behind him.

Who is in contention after 36 holes?

Mitchell’s early hot streak, fueled by a first-round 61 and three long-range birdie putts on Friday, is being tested by a chasing pack led by Lowry. The Irishman, who looked perfectly at ease in a somewhat familiar drizzle despite rejecting the idea that he’s a “bad weather guy,” gained ground with six birdies and just one bogey. He’s now 11-under and in Saturday’s final pairing.

Austria’s Sepp Straka is also quietly in the mix at 10-under after a second consecutive 67. But it’s the logjam at 7-under that will draw eyes in Round 3: Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay, Akshay Bhatia, and Si Woo Kim are all tied for fourth.

How is McIlroy playing at Truist 2025?

McIlroy called his Friday 67 “scrappy” and pointed to uncharacteristic mistakes. He still made six birdies but gave away three bogeys. It was certainly a colorful scorecard! If he can cut out the errors, he’s a serious threat heading into a course and conditions that are demanding precision.

McIlroy has also won this event four times – albeit at Quail Hollow, where the PGA Championship will be held next week.
