AS recognised as Media of the Year at SIGA Awards
Diario AS honored for its commitment to integrity, transparency and ethical sports journalism.

Diario AS has been recognized as Media of the Year at the 2025 Sport Integrity Awards, a distinction that highlights the newsroom’s commitment to ethical journalism and transparency in sports coverage.
The ceremony took place on Tuesday, November 18, at the Riyadh Exhibition and Convention Center in Saudi Arabia. Hosted by ESTAAD, part of Cityscape Global, the event marked the launch of the Sport Integrity Global Alliance’s (SIGA) inaugural Sport Integrity Awards, created to celebrate organizations and individuals who have excelled in advancing integrity in sport worldwide.
The awards were decided using clear, evidence-based criteria that identified Diario AS as a leader in responsible and integrity-focused reporting.

In presenting Diario AS with the award, SIGA recognized “Diario AS’s exemplary commitment to integrity, ethics, and transparency in sports journalism. Through initiatives such as its ‘Deporte en Positivo’ (Sport for Good) campaign, its collaboration with leading integrity organizations, and the formalization of its Code of Ethics for Digital Sports Journalism, AS has demonstrated how media can meaningfully drive accountability and social progress in sport. The outlet’s data-driven storytelling, integrity-focused reporting, and global reach across its international editions reflect a clear dedication to advancing inclusivity, equality, and truth in sports coverage.”
Accepting the award on behalf of all the journalists and staff at Diario AS, David Nelson, director of AS USA, the English-language version of Diario AS, said: “This is what these awards are all about. Recognizing those who believe that clean sport is worth fighting for. Because the challenges are real. Corruption, financial malpractice, abuses of power, threats to athlete welfare. There is still so much work to do. But this award reminds us why it matters, and it motivates us to carry on. At AS, we promise to keep doing our part: shining a light where it is needed and defending integrity every day.”
Editor-in-chief José Félix Díaz said: “We at Diario AS are deeply honored to receive the Media of the Year Award from the Sport Integrity Global Alliance. This recognition strengthens our long-standing commitment to promoting integrity, transparency, and fairness in sport. Through our journalism, our ‘Deporte en Positivo’ (Sport for Good) campaign, and collaborations with like-minded organizations, we strive to highlight the positive values of sport while exposing corruption, abuse, and other threats to its credibility. This award inspires our team to continue championing ethical, high-quality journalism that helps ensure sport remains a force for good.”
Commenting on the significance of the inaugural Sport Integrity Awards, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, Co-Founder & Global CEO of SIGA, and Executive Chairman of SIGA ASIA, said: “Tonight, the SIGA Sport Integrity Awards honor individuals and organizations whose leadership has set the highest standard for integrity in sport.
“These Awards go beyond recognition. They honor tangible achievements and meaningful impact — actions that advance integrity, strengthen institutions and build real trust across the sporting world. They highlight those whose leading example sets the benchmark for others, creating a legacy that will shape the sector for years to come.
“The recipients we celebrate tonight have shown that integrity is not optional; it is precisely the foundation upon which the credibility and future of sport rest. Through their decisions, their reforms and their unwavering commitment to sport integrity, they are shaping how the industry is governed and experienced across the globe”.
