Canelo Álvarez tipped to dominate Terence Crawford in ‘mismatch’: “He could break him”

Sean Gibbons, Manny Pacquiao’s advisor, says size and power give Canelo the clear edge over Crawford, predicting a statement-making win in Las Vegas.

Manny Pacquiao’s longtime advisor, Sean Gibbons, believes size will be the deciding factor when Canelo Álvarez faces Terence Crawford in one of boxing’s most anticipated matchups of the year.

The showdown is set for Las Vegas, and while Crawford has dominated at his weight, Gibbons says the move up in size will favor the Mexican superstar. Álvarez rules the 168-pound division, while Crawford will be stepping up 14 pounds from the weight class where he’s been most comfortable.

“Easier to predict than Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis”

“When your skill level is high enough, you can overcome a size disadvantage. But size still matters. Just look at Canelo versus Crawford. I think Canelo will absolutely dominate him,” Gibbons told gambleonline.net. “Everyone’s hyping Crawford right now, saying he’s gotten bigger and stronger. The promotion has been fantastic. But 147 or 154 pounds against 168? That’s a mismatch.”

Gibbons is convinced Crawford doesn’t stand a chance, even calling the fight easier to predict than Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis. “People don’t realize Canelo fights to his opponent’s level, he only pushes as hard as he needs to. Put Crawford in the ring with Gennady Golovkin, Dmitry Bivol, or Edgar Berlanga: there’s only one winner. Crawford can’t hit Canelo, and he can’t match his speed.

Canelo aims to make a statement

Gibbons also says Álvarez knows he needs to make a statement and silence his critics, a task he’s expected to complete in September.

“I really think Canelo will make a statement this time. It could be a decision win, but he could break Terence with a body shot or a punch to the chin. Canelo wants to make a declaration, and he has the ability to turn it on when he needs to.”

Ultimately, Gibbons downplays the hype around the fight. Despite promoters marketing it as a must-watch bout, he doesn’t see it as particularly competitive.
