Ciudad de México Update:

This Sunday, boxers Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez and Terence Crawford came face to face at a press conference in New York as they promote their highly anticipated fight set for September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. On the line will be the undisputed super middleweight (168-pound) title. Canelo boasts a record of 63 wins, 2 losses, and 2 draws, while the American is currently considered one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world.

At Sunday’s press event, held during Fanatics Fest at the Javits Center in New York, Canelo and Crawford faced off for photos, exchanging intense staredowns. UFC executive and promotional partner Dana White stepped in between the fighters just as the Mexican pushed the American. Tensions escalated briefly, but security quickly intervened to prevent the situation from getting out of hand.

Álvarez Barragán last fought on May 3 in Saudi Arabia against Cuban fighter William Scull. In that match, the Mexican regained the IBF super middleweight title, completing his collection of all the belts in the division. Meanwhile, Terence Crawford shook up the boxing world on August 3 of last year by defeating Israil Madrimov to capture the WBA super welterweight championship. Crawford remains undefeated with 41 wins in 41 fights.

Both fighters are widely regarded as two of the top 10 boxers in the world today. However, Canelo’s recent bout against Scull sparked criticism from some fans and analysts, despite his win. Now, after fighting abroad, Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez returns to the U.S., the stage of his most iconic battles.
