Canelo sends a warning to his critics ahead of his fight against Charlo
The Mexican sent a message to his critics on social media saying he doesn’t need to get ready for his September bout against Charlo.
Canelo Álvarez loves boxing, but he loves golf too. And lately, he has been seen golfing instead training and getting ready in the gym for his upcoming fight against Jermell Charlo on September 30.
Meanwhile, Mell has been training hard and preparing for the biggest challenge of his career. The American is bulking up, as he will have to go up two weight classes and be physically ready to face Álvarez.
Canelo lost to Dmitry Bivol in 2022 when the Guadalajara-bred talent decided to go up from super middleweight to light heavyweight to meet the undefeated Russian inside the ring.
Bivol ended up winning by clearly outpointing the Mexican, who seemed slow and tired against the naturally bigger and stronger man.
Canelo addresses a bitter message on social media
Since that defeat, Canelo has been in the spotlight in his victories against Caleb Plant, Gennady Golovkin, and John Ryder.
After defeating Plant and a 41-year-old Golovkin, Canelo was expected to record a knockout win over Ryder in front of his fans at Estadio Akron, but Eddy Reynoso’s best boxer suffered more than expected and grinded out a hard-fought points victory against the Brit.
The Mexican has been criticized for that performance and many fans and analysts stated that Canelo is on a decline, which may have led him to duck David Benavidez. Lately, he has spent his time playing golf, which has also boosted the controversy regarding his preparations for the Jermell Charlo fight.
Canelo, though, decided to send a message to those who accuse him of taking things lightly and not training enough before his bout against Charlo.
“Let me tell you one thing. I don’t need to get ready because I’m always ready, mother f***kers”, he said on Instagram.
Canelo is aware that his fight against Charlo is a dangerous one. Despite being two weight classes lighter, Mell is hungry for more glory, and defeating Canelo would be the biggest win of his career, as he would also take Álvarez’s four super middleweight belts.
From a business point of view, there could be very negative consequences in the Canelo-PBC relationship, as the boxer signed a multimillionaire three-fight deal with the promotion, and losing his first fight could have a very bad impact on his next two bouts.
