Canelo’s brutal warning: what did the Mexican say to Berlanga in their pre-fight press conference?
The Guadalajara native didn’t like his opponent’s attitude during their second presser and told him what he was planning to do on fight night.
Saul Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga don’t seem to like each other, as both men exchanged words in their presser ahead of their fight on September 14.
The Mexican is looking to close the year with another win which will help him keep his king status in the super middleweight division, where he holds all the belts.
Although Berlanga is regarded as one of the most talented young fighters in the sport, most of the boxing community believes Canelo’s power and experience will be too much for the Brooklyn native.
However, the undefeated American thinks he has the skills to dethrone Canelo and become the undisputed champion at 168 lbs. and was seen confident when both men did the traditional face-off.
Canelo’s threat to Berlanga; what did he say?
While their first press conference in New York on Monday took place in a respectful atmosphere, things got a little heated up in their second presser at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Tuesday.
Both fighters had to be separated by the security guards after they exchanged a few words on stage.
“You hit like my son. You don’t bring anything to me that I haven’t seen before”, Canelo said.
“You’re going to see, motherfucker,” Berlanga answered.
“Eight rounds, mark my words. I’m not going to have compassion. These kind of motherfuckers keep me motivated. I don’t want to fuck you up right now because your money will be gone”, Alvarez said to Berlanga.
Unlike the press conference with Caleb Plant in 2021, where the Mexican hit the American after exchanging some words, Canelo used Berlanga’s attitude to motivate himself ahead of their showdown.
“I love it [when an opponent pisses me off]. When someone gets under my skin, I make them pay the hard way”, Alvarez added.
While fans hope to see Canelo take on David Benavidez next year, the fight may never happen due to the Mexican’s high money demands, as he asked for at least $200 million to spet in the ring and face The Mexican Monster.
