Canelo’s painful plan for Berlanga: what did the Mexican say?

The Guadalajara native doesn’t like Berlanga and revealed his intentions ahead of their clash on September 14.

The Guadalajara native doesn’t like Berlanga and revealed his intentions ahead of their clash on September 14.

The super middleweight clash between Saul Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga promises to be an entertaining matchup between two men who don’t like each other.

Although there wasn’t a lot of excitement surrounding the event when it was announced, things got heated between both men after their pre-fight pressers and quite a few interviews.

Berlanga isn’t afraid of taking on Alvarez and believes he will be too strong for the Mexican. His confidence and trash-talking bothered Canelo, who admitted he will use that as an extra motivation on fight night.

However, unlike other pre-fight events like the one with Caleb Plant, the super middleweight king didn’t lose his temper and was seen quite relaxed, probably thinking that all the emotions he was keeping would go out during their clash.

Canelo reveals his fight plan against Berlanga

Although both fighters have already admitted they will try to knock each other out and that the fight won’t go the 12 rounds, Canelo gave some more details on what he feels he will do during the bout with the Brooklyn native.

Speaking to TMZ Sports, he said he expects a strong fighter in Berlanga, but he’s confident his skills and experience will make the difference.

“He’s good, he’s strong, he’s young, he’s hungry. But it’s nothing new for me. I have been in there with all kinds of fighters, difficult fighters, strong fighters, and I’m just going to go there and do my business”.

“(...) I’m strong. I’m strong and I’m looking to do my best there and let him feel so much pain. So I’m focused on that”, Canelo revealed-

Asked about how long the fight would last, Alvarez didn’t want to give a precise prediction but promised to punish Berlanga.

“I don’t know how quick but I’m going to do my job and I’m going to try to let him feel so much pain and then knock out him. I don’t know what round. He already knows and is going to need a really good camp so I hope he prepares himself really well because he’s going to need it”, he concluded.

In his last fight, Alvarez beat Jaime Mungia via unanimous decision in May, while Berlanga kept his undefeated record after a TKO victory over Padraig McCrory in February.
