Boxing has brought back legends before – Manny Pacquiao’s return for a welterweight title fight proved that. Now, two American icons have agreed to face each other in an exhibition bout in the spring of 2026. TMZ Sports reported that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will fight Mike Tyson next year.

“This fight is something nobody in the world – not even me – would have thought could happen,” Tyson told TMZ Sports. “But boxing has entered an unpredictable era, and this fight is as unpredictable as any.”

So far, no venue or exact date has been revealed, but the event is being organized by both fighters’ promotional companies. TMZ reported that contracts have already been signed. Mayweather said his legacy is untouchable – and that Tyson won’t change that.

“I’ve been doing this for 30 years and there hasn’t been a single fighter who could damage my legacy,” Mayweather said. “Everyone knows that if I do something, I do it big – it will be legendary. I’m the best in the world of boxing, and this exhibition will give the fans what they want.”

Tyson last stepped into the ring against Jake Paul on November 15, 2024. The YouTuber-turned-professional fighter defeated him by unanimous decision after eight two-minute rounds with 14-ounce gloves. Before that, Tyson had been out of the ring for 19 years.

As for Mayweather, his farewell came with a TKO win over Conor McGregor on August 26, 2017. The Irishman made his professional boxing debut at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but was stopped with 1:05 left in the 10th round.
