Golf’s first major is just around the corner and ‘Rory McIlroy: The Masters wait’ on Amazon is a great way to get ready

Update:

It’s that time of year again, Springtime, April and the Masters at Augusta National. After last year’s drama, golf fans are more eager than ever to watch the 2026 edition and Amazon has just what every lover of the game needs: a review of the 2025 tournament seen through the eyes of Rory McIlroy and those closest to him.

It’s a must-watch, but not an easy watch. Following Rory on the back nine at Augusta on Sunday was almost more stressful this time around than watching him play in 2025. Rory is one of the best golfers in the history of the game, but if you’ve followed his career, you know he has had his ups and downs. McIlroy walks us through some of those tough times along with his parents and others who have supported the Northern Irishman over the years.

The documentary helps you understand how hard it was for Rory between winning majors and what a relief it was for him to finally achieve the Career Grand Slam. As a viewer, you could almost feel the stress and pressure on him during each shot and at every press conference over the years. The documentary is a roller coaster ride, and, even though we all know how the ride ends, it’s still scary watching Rory get though that back nine at Augusta on Sunday.

After watching the documentary, I feel confident that Rory will win another Masters and he’ll get a few more majors before he decides to call it quits. This year he’ll be so relaxed that he just might go out there and win another one. I’m not sure how many more majors it will take the “experts” to categorize him as the GOAT or even as Europe’s best golfer, but he’s definitely in the conversation to take over Seve Ballesteros’ place.

What does Rory need to be the GOAT?

Speaking to BOYLE Sports, who offer the latest golf odds, McIlroy’s former agent Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler said’ “I’m sure Rory is looking at lots of things - extending his stay at number one in the world, and how many more majors he can win,” he said. “If he won five more, he’ll have done well. If he wins 10 majors, he’ll have done exceptionally well and will be the best European golfer ever.”

Chandler is convinced that McIlroy can take over Seve’s place as the best European golfer ever: “Rory definitely needs a couple more wins. I always felt guys like Seve Ballesteros were right up there with the best. He was a big time player. He had everything and the fact he was a bit of a maverick as well was brilliant.”
