How much prize money did Hideki Matsuyama win at the 2024 FedEx St. Jude Championship?
The Japanese golfer bagged the top prize at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee.
This weekend saw the start of the 2024 FedEx Cup Playoffs. This three-tournament series will decide the winner of the 2024 season of the PGA Tour, with a total of $75 million on offer across the three competitions.
This year’s FedEx Cup is the 18th in the competition’s history and the stakes could not be higher as players battle it out in an ever-decreasing field. The action started at the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind, where Hideki Matsuyama clinched top spot with an impressive 16-under score.
The Japanese star led by five strokes going into the final day, carding a six-under 64 on Saturday to take a commanding lead at the top of the leaderboard. On Sunday he sunk an astonishing 38-foot birdie putt on the 8th but carded a 1-over round to narrowly take the win.
Incredibly, Matsuyama was forced to begin the tournament without his caddie and coach after a robbery at a London airport.
What is the prize money for the FedEx St. Jude Championship?
The FedEx Cup Playoffs offers a huge payday for the world’s top golfers with $20 million up for grabs at this weekend’s tournament alone. The winner of the FedEx St. Jude wins $3.6 million of that $20 million total prize purse.
Matsuyama adds that to significant PGA winnings already this season. The top ten players in the FedEx Cup regular-season standings receive a share of the $40 million Comcast Business Tour purse; Matsuyama earnt $2.4 million for finishing 8th in 2024.
He has the chance to add more before the end of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. There is another $20 million prize purse in each of the remaining two tournaments: the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship. There is a further $15 million for the overall winner, the PGA Tour Champion.
