How much prize money did Tommy Fleetwood win at the 2024 Dubai Invitational?

Tommy Fleetwood couldn’t have dreamt of making a better start to 2024 as Ryder Cup teammate Rory McIlroy’s nightmare end to his fourth round at Dubai Creek Resort cost him dear at the Dubai Invitation, the first event of the year on the DP World Tour.

Leader McIlroy finds the water on the 18th

The Northern Irishman was in the driving seat on the 18th tee, one shot ahead of playing partner Fleetwood and South African Thirston Lawrence, who fired a final-round 64 to ultimately finish in a tie for a second. But while Fleetwood ended his round with a second successive birdie, McIlory hooked his tee shot on the last into the water and could only card a bogey.

As a result, the duo, affectionately referred to as Fleetwood Mac as they teamed up together in Europe’s Ryder Cup victory over the United States in Rome last autumn, swapped places on the leaderboard right at the death.

Fleetwood back in the winner’s circle

Although the 32-year-old Englishman has been considered one of the world’s top golfers for a number of years and is current ranked ninth in the Official World Golf Ranking, his victory in Dubai is only his third in the last six years and he has still to win on the PGA Tour.

However, kicking off the year with a win will give Fleetwood a huge amount of confidence ahead of the season fully getting into gear in a few weeks’ time. McIlory, meanwhile, will be kicking himself as he let a first victory since July last year (the Genesis Scottish Open) slip through his fingers.

Lucrative Dubai Desert Classic up next on DP World Tour

The Dubai Invitational had a total prize purse of $2.5 million, with Fleetwood’s 10-foot birdie putt on the 18th earning him the $425,000 winner’s cheque.

Both Fleetwood and McIlory will be staying in the Middle East for next week’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic, the joint second most lucrative event on the DP World Tour (total prize purse of $9 million, with the winner taking home $1.53 million).
