Alexander Zverev defeated American Frances Tiafoe by 6-7 (7-5), 7-5 and 10-5, in the third contest of the final day of the Laver Cup, which left the tournament to be resolved in the final game between the Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz and American Taylor Fritz with Team Europe trailing Team World 10-11 with three points on the table for the winner.

Backed by boisterous German fans in the stands of the Uber Arena in Berlin, the world number 2 launched his offensive from the beginning and ultimately prevailed in a game that last just a little longer than two and a half hours.

Carlos Alcaraz faced Taylor Fritz in the final game of the tournament with the stakes at an all time high, in a ‘winner takes all’ game. The man from Murcia duly delivered with a 2-0 sets win (6-2- 7-5) to secure three points and the 2024 Laver Cup for Europe with a 13-11 victory.

Despite the Laver Cup not being an official ATP event, it has gained notoriety and prestige over the years and now attracts top-ranked players with each winning member of the victorious team bagging $250,000 for winning the tournament with players from the losing team set to earn $125,000 each, with the total prize pool for the tournament approximately $2.25m.
