A big payday for Scottie Scheffler

Golfers playing in Georgia over the last few days weren’t just on the hunt for the prestigious green jacket - the holy grail of golf - and a major championship, but also a fat check as well. With the winner taking 18% of the aforementioned purse home, some $2.7 million to be exact, it would seem that Scheffler is in for a significant payday. To put it in perspective, that sum is the same as the total purse that was dispensed to the entire Masters field back in 1997, when Tiger Woods won his first green jacket.

Interestingly, it’s also a significant increase of the purse total of $11.5 million from just last year, when Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama slipped on his very first green jacket in April.

What do 2nd and 3rd place finishers at the Masters get?

While only the winner receives the famous green jacket, the new second-place prize of $1.62 million is quite a generous amount as well. Indeed, the sum which actually surpasses any winner’s share at almost every professional golf tournament around the world, will surely be a welcome reward for Rory Mcilroy after a stellar showing at the end of the Masters. Incidentally, this year will be the first ever for a third-place finisher to receive a seven-figure payday, with $1,020,000 being paid out.
