The tournament began as the Insurance City Open in Hartford, Connecticut, back in 1952. Interestingly, it was created as a fundraiser by the local Jaycees, who had previously tried their luck with a turtle race which didn’t quite pan out.

In 1991, the course underwent substantial redesign, becoming the TPC at River Highlands—the current home of the Travelers Championship.
