Indy 500 summary: Winner, leaderboard and updates

The 107th running of the Indy 500 saw Josef Newgarden win this edition at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

After red flag and red flag, Josef Newgarden wins the Indy 500!!! An amazing maneuver against Ericsson who had the lead in the last lap. What an amazing last lap. The American over took the Swede at a turn and on the stretch kept the lead. This was a crazy race where all that could happened did happen.

This is what Indy 500 is all about and we love to see it. We are happy no one got injured from those crashes and hope that next year’s race is as exciting as this one.

Thanks for tuning in!

The words of Pat after the crash

The race starts again and we hear what Pat has to say !

Pat’s tire and the crash

Let’s take a close look at what happened as the race started and the Mexican lost the lead to the Swede. That’s why many racers don’t want the lead when a red flag comes up!

This is very scary

This has to be annoying for the guys at the front. Because someone on the 13th place can mess things up for you.

Another crash!!!! And another red flag!

Again, again and again this is Indy 500. Another crash as the race began. 3 laps to go and we will have 3 laps to make things happen. Wow!!

Andy Restrepo

Pat’s accident that takes him!

This is Indy 500! Shame because the Mexican could have one today !

COME ON! Red Flag once more

Pato O’Ward hits the wall as the race restarted again and once more we had to go to the pits

Andy Restrepo

Here we goo!!!!!

As the caution flag waved, the pit lane became a hive of activity as Hunter-Reay, Ilott, and Canapino made their way in for a quick stop. This left O'Ward, Ericsson, Newgarden, Rossi, and Ferrucci as the top five drivers still out on the track, battling it out for the lead.

Andy Restrepo

Here we go again after the crash ! 13 laps to go

While Kyle Kirkwood's flip certainly caught everyone's attention, it was the tire flying out of the track that had everyone in the media center on edge. The fact that Kirkwood remained conscious throughout the incident and the effectiveness of the aeroscreen in ensuring safety is truly remarkable and inspiring.

Andy Restrepo

How nothing bad really happened is crazy!

Ho that tire didn’t fly and injured anyone is crazy. Something to think about for next year.

This is Indy 500 peoples!

As the race begins again this where the tire went flying!

Andy Restrepo

Race almost over for Veekay and Palou

Rinus VeeKay and Alex Palou's positions have been impacted after a pit road incident, with VeeKay now in P28 due to a drive-through penalty and Palou in P17. Although Palou's car wasn't completely wrecked, the damage he sustained during the race definitely set him back in terms of track position. It's safe to say that VeeKay's race took an unexpected turn, and unfortunately, he played a major role in his own downfall.
